Junghans and the automobile - a strong link that has existed for more than 100 years. Inspired by this, the Master Driver Chronoscope combines the charms of classic cars with the passion for mechanical timepieces.
The time is coming
Arthur Junghans has shaped the relationship of the watch factory of Junghans to the automobile. The son of the company founder Erhard Junghans, after he had ordered one of the first Daimler test cars in 1892, already acquired an additional automobile in 1895: a four-seated motor-coach van. To enable the Schramberger entrepreneur to use a steering wheel in this vehicle, he had to produce the worm gearing itself. After regulations were issued at the beginning of the twentieth century, which dictated speeds in the city, the clock became more and more important in the automobile, so that from 1908, Junghans also produced autouirs. They not only served the driver for a time orientation, but they were also a kind of tachometer replacement:
True passion
Whether in person of Arthur Junghans or nowadays by Dr. Hans-Jochem and Hannes Steim, owner of the watch factory of Junghans, the passion for the automobile is unbroken. Steim in Schramberg, for example, shows vehicles that show a cross-section of 110 years of automobile history. Special Maybach classics from the 1930s and Mercedes models from the 1950s served as inspiration for the new timepieces.
Optically brilliant
The new Master Driver Chronoscope takes up design elements of these classic cars in their design. The dial presents itself to the wearer in a "tacho-look" and awakens the charm that the instruments spray in the interior of an oldtimer. Large minutes and hour numbers are based on the speed indicator in the car and give the timepiece its character, which is underlined by a nostalgic design.
The old-timer flair is emphasized by color zones and the two totalizers in Bicompax arrangement, typical of the champion line cup-shaped into the dial. With the help of the stop function of the mechanical movement, the driver can precisely measure his own time, not only in the hourglass class of old-timer rallies, where only mechanical timing is permitted.
Whether with a leather strap, with the typical perforation perforation, or stainless steel strap, the Master Driver Chronoscope fascinates not only automotive lovers.
